ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2007 AWARDS FOR ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

SPANISH SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY AWARDS FOR THE BEST ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €15 000 (3 prizes)

Basis:

1. The purpose of these awards is to encourage the publication of high-quality original articles in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

2. A first prize of 7000, a second prize of 5000, and a third prize of 3000 will be awarded through the Fundación Casa del Corazón.

3. The awards will be given annually and are to be awarded each year.

4. All original articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible. Articles published as editorials, special articles, or review papers are not eligible for these awards.

5. The editor-in-chief and the associate editors of the Revista Española de Cardiología will pre-select what they consider the 6 best articles published in the journal in 2006 after consulting with the chairs of the Scientific Sections of the Spanish Society of Cardiology.

6. The jury that will make the final selection of the 3 articles to receive awards will be overseen by the vice president of the Spanish Society of Cardiology and will also consist of the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología, and the members of the Spanish Society of Cardiology grants and awards committee. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

7. The awards will be given at a ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARDS FROM THE SPANISH SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY FOR ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología WITH THE GREATEST INTERNATIONAL IMPACT

Amount: €24 000 (6 prizes)

Basis:

1. The purpose of these awards is to encourage the publication in the Revista Española de Cardiología of original articles that have an important impact or repercussion, both in the medium- and long-term, on the international scientific community.

2. A first prize of 6000 and 2 second prizes of 3000 will be awarded to those articles with long-term impact, and another first prize of 6000, and 2 second prizes of 3000 will be awarded to those articles with the greatest medium-term impact, through the Fundación Casa del Corazón.

3. The awards will be given annually and are to be awarded each year.

4. All original articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología will be eligible. Articles published as editorials, special articles, or review papers are not eligible for these awards.

5. The impact of the published articles will be measured by the number of reference citations received by the article published in the Revista Española de Cardiología from journals per the Science Citation Index Expanded™.

6. For the award to the article with the most significant long-term international impact, the reference citations for articles published in the journal in 2001 that have been cited during the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 will be determined. For the award to the article with the most significant medium-term international impact, the reference citations for articles published in the journal during 2004 that have been cited during the years 2005 and 2006 will be determined.

7. Calculation of the number of reference citations per the SCI for each article will be determined by an organization independent of the journal and the Spanish Society of Cardiology that will issue an annual report on the topic.

8. The awards will be given at a special ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARDS FROM THE CLINICAL AND OUTPATIENT CARDIOLOGY SECTION FOR ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €2400 (2 prizes)

Basis:

1. The Clinical and Outpatient Cardiology Section, in order to encourage and promote the submission of articles, and/or scientific reviews in the Revista Española de Cardiología among section members, announces 2 prizes of e1200 each, through the Fundación Casa del Corazón, to the best original articles or brief reports on clinical cardiology published in the journal during 2006.

2. One of the awards will be reserved for section members who have been members for at least one year.

3. The jury will be composed of 2 members of the Clinical and Outpatient Cardiology Section and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología, or the person he designates. The final decision is not subject to appeal. The practical interest and scientific content of the study will be evaluated.

4. The awards will be given at a ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARD FROM THE GERIATRIC CARDIOLOGY SECTION TO THE BEST ARTICLE ON GERIATRIC CARDIOLOGY PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €1500

The Geriatric Cardiology Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research in geriatric cardiology and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Therefore, a prize of 1500 will be awarded through the Fundación Casa del Corazón to the best article on geriatric cardiology published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006.

Basis:

1. All original articles on geriatric cardiology published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible.

2. The award will be given annually.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Geriatric Cardiology Section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

4. The award will be given during the opening session of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid, from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARD FROM THE PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY AND CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE SECTION

Amount: €2000

Basis:

1. The prize is 2000, through the Fundación Casa del Corazón.

2. All original articles on pediatric cardiology and congenital heart disease published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible for this award.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Health Diseases Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

4. The award will be given at a special ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARDS FROM THE PREVENTIVE CARDIOLOGY AND REHABILITATION SECTION TO ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €3000

Basis:

1. The Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation Section, in order to encourage and promote the submission of articles and/or scientific reviews in the Revista Española de Cardiología, announces a prize of e3000, through the Fundación Casa del Corazón, to the best original article or brief report on preventive clinical cardiology, epidemiology, and cardiovascular rehabilitation published in the journal during 2006.

2. The award will be given annually.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation Section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología, or the person he designates. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

4. The award will be given at a ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARDS FROM THE ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE AND CORONARY UNITS SECTION TO THE BEST ARTICLES ON ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE PUBLISHED IN SPANISH AND IN ENGLISH

Amount: €6000 (2 prizes)

The Ischemic Heart Disease and Coronary Unit Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research on ischemic heart disease and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología or in other high-impact journals.

Therefore, 2 prizes of 3000 each will be awarded through the Fundación Casa del Corazón. One prize will be awarded to the best article on ischemic heart disease published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006. The second prize will be given to the best article on ischemic heart disease published during 2006 in an English journal of higher impact factor than the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Basis:

1. All original articles on ischemic heart disease published in the Revista Española de Cardiología or another journal in English with a higher impact factor during 2006 are eligible.

2. Authors of publications in English journals should submit their application along with a copy of the article. The deadline for reception at the Spanish Society of Cardiology Office (Ischemic Heart Disease Section) expires on April 26, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. Requests received after the deadline indicated will be rejected.

3. Only studies in which the original intellectual work was done in Spain will be evaluated.

4. Priority will be given to studies with results that have practical implications or assist in clinical decision-making or resource management or organization.

5. Studies sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry are excluded.

6. The awards will be given annually.

7. The jury will be composed of 2 members of the Ischemic Heart Disease Section, 2 members of the executive board of the section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

8. The awards will be given during the opening session of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB AWARD TO THE BEST ARTICLE ON ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €2000

Basis:

1. The Echocardiography and Other Imaging Techniques Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology announces the Bristol-Myers Squibb Award to echocardiography articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006.

2. The prize is e2000.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Echocardiography and Other Imaging Techniques Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

4. The award will be given at a special ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


AWARD FROM THE CARDIAC PACING SECTION TO THE BEST ARTICLE ON CARDIAC PACING PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

The Cardiac Pacing Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research on cardiac pacing and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Therefore, a prize of e1500 will be awarded through the Fundación Casa del Corazón to the best article on cardiac pacing published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006.

Basis:

1. All original articles on cardiac pacing published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible.

2. The award will be given annually.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Cardiac Pacing Section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

AWARDS FROM THE ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION SECTION TO THE BEST ARTICLES ON ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €4500 (2 prizes)

The Arterial Hypertension Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research on cardiac pacing and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Therefore, a first prize of 3000 and a second prize of 1500 will be awarded through the Fundación Casa del Corazón to the best articles on arterial hypertension pacing published during 2006 in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Basis:

1. All original articles on hypertension published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible.

2. The awards will be given annually.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Arterial Hypertension Section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

AWARD FROM THE ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY AND ARRHYTHMIA SECTION TO THE BEST ARTICLE ON ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY AND ARRHYTHMIAS PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Basis:

1. The prize is 3000, through the Fundación Casa del Corazón.

2. All original articles on electrophysiology and arrhythmias published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible for this award.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

4. The award will be given at a special ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.


ABBOTT AWARDS TO THE BEST ARTICLES ON ACUTE DECOMPENSATED HEART FAILURE PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €6000 (2 prizes)

The Heart Failure, Transplantation, and Other Therapeutic Alternatives Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research on acute heart failure and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Therefore, 2 Abbott prizes of 3000 will be awarded to the best articles on acute decompensated heart failure published during 2006 in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Basis:

1. All original articles on acute decompensated heart failure published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible.

2. The awards will be given annually.

3. The jury will consist of the chair and the secretary of the Heart Failure, Transplantation and Other Therapeutic Alternatives Section, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

VIII GE HEALTHCARE AWARD TO THE BEST ARTICLE ON NUCLEAR CARDIOLOGY PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €2000

The Nuclear Cardiology Working Group of the Spanish Society of Cardiology wishes to promote research in the field of nuclear cardiology and encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

Therefore, the Nuclear Cardiology Working Group of the Spanish Society of Cardiology announces the VIII Healthcare Award of 2000 to the best article on nuclear cardiology published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006.

Basis:

1. All original articles on nuclear cardiology published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2006 are eligible.

2. Authors who have published their articles in this journal, but do not wish to participate in the award must indicate this beforehand.

3. The award will be given annually and is to be awarded each year.

4. The editor-in-chief and the associate editors of the Revista Española de Cardiología will pre-select what they consider the 3 best articles published in the journal in 2006 after consulting with the chair of the Nuclear Cardiology Working Group.

5. The jury will consist of the vice president of the Spanish Society of Cardiology as well as the editor-in-chief, and the members of the Spanish Society of Cardiology Grants and Awards Committee. The final decision is not subject to appeal.

6. The award will be given during the opening session of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid, from 18 to 20 October 2007.


XVIII IZASA AWARDS TO THE BEST ARTICLES ON INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY PUBLISHED IN THE Revista Española de Cardiología

Amount: €3500 (2 prizes)

Basis:

1. The Hemodynamic and Interventional Cardiology Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology announces the IZASA awards for articles published on interventional cardiology in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

2. Members of the Hemodynamic and Interventional Cardiology Section who are first authors of studies conducted primarily in Spain and published in the Revista Española de Cardiología are eligible for these awards.

3. Studies published between September 2006 and August 2007 will be evaluated).

4. Prize awards will be as follows:

­ First prize: e2000.

­ Second prize: e1500.

5. The jury will be composed of 2 members of the executive board of the section, 2 members of the section chosen by ballot, and the editor-in-chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

6. The awards will be given during the opening session of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress, to be held in Madrid from 18 to 20 October 2007.

7. The awards will not be given if, in the jury's opinion, no study is of high enough quality to merit the award. The judges' decision cannot be appealed.
