ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2003 AWARDS FOR WORK PUBLISHED IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA

THE SPANISH CARDIOLOGY SOCIETY AWARDS FOR THE BEST ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA

Amount: 12.000 €

Basis:

1. The purpose of these prizes is to encourage the publication of quality original articles in the Revista Española de Cardiología.

2. A first prize of 6000 euros and two second prizes of 3000 euros will be awarded.

3. Prizes will be awarded annually and must be awarded each year.

4. All articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during the year 2002 will be eligible. Articles published as editorials, special articles or review articles will not be eligible for these prizes.

5. The chief editor and associate editors of the Revista Española de Cardiología will pre-select what they consider to be the 6 best articles published in the journal during the year 2002, after consultation with the presidents of the scientific sections of the Spanish Cardiology Society.

6. The jury that will make the final selection of the 3 prize articles will be presided over by the vice president of the Spanish Cardiology Society and will also be made up of the chief editor and the members of the SCS jury of grants and awards. Their decision cannot be appealed.

7. Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony that will take place during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SSC) which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

PRIZES FROM THE SPANISH SOCIETY OF CARDIOLOGY FOR THE ARTICLES PUBLISHED IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA WITH THE GREATEST INTERNATIONAL IMPACT

Amount: 24 000 euros

Basis:

1. The purpose of these prizes is to encourage the publication in the Revista Española de Cardiología of original articles that have an important impact or repercussion, both in the medium- and long-term, on the international scientific community.

2. A first prize of 6000 euros and 2 second prizes of 3000 euros will be awarded to those articles with long-term impact, and another first prize of 6000 euros and 2 second prizes of 3000 will be awarded to those articles with the greatest medium-term impact.

3. Prizes will be awarded annually and must be awarded each year.

4. All original articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología will be eligible. Articles published as editorials, special articles or review articles will not be eligible for these prizes.

5. The impact of the published articles will be measured by the number of reference citations the article published in the Revista Española de Cardiología receives from journals included in the Expanded Science Citation Index database.

6. For the award for the article with the most significant long-term international impact, all the reference citations that each article published in the journal during the year 1997 has received during the years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 will be tabulated. For the award for the article with the most significant medium-term impact, all citations that each article published in the journal during the year 2000 has received during the years 2001 and 2002 will be tabulated.

7. Tabulation of the number of reference citations for each article will be performed by an organization independent of the journal of the Spanish Cardiology Society that will issue an annual report in this respect.

8. Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony that will be held during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

AWARD FROM THE PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY AND CONGENITAL CARDIOPATHY SECTION OF THE SPANISH CARDIOLOGY SOCIETY

Amount: 1803.04 euros

Basis:

1. The prize is 1803.04 euros.

2. All original articles on pediatric cardiology and congenital cardiopathy published in the Revista Española de Cardiología (Volume 55/2002, Numbers 1 to 12) are eligible for this prize.

3. The evaluation panel will consist of the president and secretary of the Pediatric and Congenital Cardiopathy Section of the Spanish Cardiology Society, and by the chief editor of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

4. The prize will be awarded during a ceremony to celebrate the event during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

XIV IZASA AWARD TO THE BEST PUBLISHED ARTICLES REGARDING INTERVENTIONIST CARDIOLOGY IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA

Amount: 2500 euros

Basis:

1. The Hemodynamic and Interventionist Cardiology Section of the Spanish Cardiology Society announces the IZASA award for articles published on interventionist cardiology in the Revista Española de Cardiología .

2. The members of the Hemodynamic and Interventionist Cardiology Section who are first authors of studies performed primarily in Spain and published in the Revista Española de Cardiología are eligible for these prizes.

3. Studies published during the SCS inter-congress period will be evaluated.

4. Prize awards will be as follows:

-­ First prize: 1500 euros.

-­ Second prize: 1000 euros.

5. The jury will be composed of 2 members of the Board of Directors of the Section, 2 members of the section chosen by drawing, and the chief editor of the Revista Española de Cardiología.

6. The prizes will be awarded during the opening ceremony of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

7. The prizes will not be awarded if, in the jury's judgment, no study is of an adequate caliber. The judges' decision cannot be appealed.

IV AMERSHAM HEALTH AWARD TO THE BEST PUBLICATION ON NUCLEAR CARDIOLOGY IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA

The Nuclear Work Group of the Spanish Cardiology Society wishes to encourage investigation in the field of nuclear cardiology and to encourage authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología .

Amount: 2000 euros

Basis:

1. All original articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during 2002 (Volume 55/02, Numbers 1 to 12) that discuss nuclear cardiology are eligible.

2. Any authors who have published their studies in said volume who do not wish to participate in the awarding of prizes must so state beforehand.

3. The prize will be awarded annually and must be awarded.

4. The chief editor and associate editors of the Revista Española de Cardiología will pre-select what they consider to be the 3 best articles published in the journal during 2000 after consultation with the president of the Nuclear Cardiology Work Group.

5. The award panel will be composed of the vice president of the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the chief editor and the members of the SCS grants and awards panel. Their decision cannot be appealed.

6. The award will be made during the opening ceremony of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

ROCHE AWARD FOR THE BEST ARTICLE PUBLISHED IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA ON HEART FAILURE

Amount: 6010.12 euros

Basis:

1. A prize of 6010.12 euros is announced for articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología with the principal theme of Heart Failure.

2. The Chief Editor and the Associate Editors of the Revista Española de Cardiología will select the articles they consider to be of the highest quality due to their novel and original character. They will also evaluate those articles that report changes in treatment, followup, overview, or epidemiology of the disease concept.

3. The jury that will make the final selection of the prize article will be presided over by the vice president of the SCS and also composed of the Editor in Chief and members of the Grants and Awards panel of the SCS. Their decision cannot be appealed. The prize can be declared vacant if, in the judgment of the jury, no article is of adequate quality. Should that be the case, the prize amount will not accumulate for successive years.

4. The prize will be awarded at a ceremony that will be held for this purpose during the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.

AWARDS FROM THE ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION SECTION OF THE SPANISH CARDIOLOGY SOCIETY TO THE BEST ARTICLES WRITTEN ON ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION PUBLISHED IN THE REVISTA ESPAÑOLA DE CARDIOLOGIA

Amount: 4500 euros

The Arterial Hypertension Section of the SCS wishes to encourage investigation on arterial hypertension and stimulate authors to publish their results in the Revista Española de Cardiología. To this end, an award will be made of a first prize of 3000 euros and 2 second prizes of 1500 euros each to the best articles on Arterial Hypertension published the years 2001 and 2002 in the Revista Española de Cardiología .

Basis:

1. All original articles published in the Revista Española de Cardiología during the years 2001 and 2001 on Arterial Hypertension will be eligible.

2. Prized will be awarded annually.

3. The jury will be composed of the President and Secretary of the Arterial Hypertension Section and the Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Española de Cardiología . Their decision cannot be appealed.

4. The prizes will be awarded during the opening ceremony of the Cardiovascular Disease Congress (XXXIX National Congress of the SCS), which will take place in Seville from the 15th to the 18th of October, 2003.
